Our mint plans for Kendal

It would be hard to beat the other weekend when we did a bit of a DJ swap with The Charlatans. They asked us to DJ for them at The Empress Ballroom in Blackpool and in return our favourite person in the world Tim Burgess (pictured thanks to Shirlaine) returned the favour at the aftershow party we threw for them. The gig was to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their first album “Some Friendly” which they played track by track to an awestruck audience. Only 24 hours before we were given a sneak preview of their new album and it’s as good as anything they’ve ever done.

Old And New

It was a day for visiting Manchester institutions old and, quite possibly, new. Going to interview The Whip as they record their second album made an interesting enough prospect, their blend of electronic resonance having hit the streets of Manchester long before La Roux’s eighties-inflitrated back-beat.

Punk's Still Helping To Smash Walls

XOX recently took on Berlin, whizzing round afternoon raves and investigating the cultural history of the town on the worlds slowest ever bus tour (yes, we got stuck in traffic for an hour due to Berlin Wall celebrations, forcing the tour guide to inanely talk about everything in sight - "That cafe does the best chicken salad" was a highlight).
