Our mint plans for Kendal

It would be hard to beat the other weekend when we did a bit of a DJ swap with The Charlatans. They asked us to DJ for them at The Empress Ballroom in Blackpool and in return our favourite person in the world Tim Burgess (pictured thanks to Shirlaine) returned the favour at the aftershow party we threw for them. The gig was to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their first album “Some Friendly” which they played track by track to an awestruck audience. Only 24 hours before we were given a sneak preview of their new album and it’s as good as anything they’ve ever done.

We’ve been asked to get involved at various festivals and three days of DJing in the Joe Strummer field at Glastonbury alongside the likes of Bez should be enough to turn us into veterans in a hurry. Before that we have the relative urban safety of Eurocultured, kind of like a training camp for the real battlefields that await.

The festival we love the most is Kendal Calling as this is the third year Same Teens has been involved and it’s our most crackers plan yet. As you might know on NYE we were offered a 500 capacity club in which to throw a party. Only trouble was, we all fancied going to a house party. Cue ten days of gathering, building, finding and scouring, and, hey presto, The House Party was born. What could be more nuts than a house party in a club you may ask? A house party at a festival, that’s what.

By day there’s a stack of games in the living room, you can get a massage in the bedroom, tea and biscuits in the kitchen and The Wasted Little DJs will be doing hair and make up to keep everyone looking their best. We’ve even got a string quartet and our old friend Howard Marks will be stopping by for a special breakfast.

By night it’ll all go a bit more nuts with some of our friends coming along to play their favourite records. Potential problems with noisy neighbours will be eliminated as we’ll finish each night with a silent disco.

We just need to make sure nobody’s sick in anyone’s garden.

So far we’ve asked lots of our favourite Manchester nights and DJs and the list so far includes Dave Haslam, Juicy, Up The Racket, Will Tramp, Rick from Twisted Wheel, Good Vibrations, Murkage and there’s plenty more to come. Considering the main line-up we reckon the whole of Manchester should decamp for the weekend. Now, where’s them flip flops? See you round x x x
